Travel in The Paradigm
Traveling from one node to another incurs a cost measured in blocks, symbolizing the passage of time and digital resources. These are the tiers of travel expenses:
- Instant Travel: Between different connected scenes within the same Trailhead.
- Short Travel: Between different trailheads within the same region. Requires
1d4
blocks. - Medium Travel: To another region within the same world. Requires
3d8
blocks. - Long Travel: To a region in an entirely different world. Requires
12d12
blocks.
How To Travel
To explore all that The Paradigm has to offer, you will need to travel to all the worlds and locations it contains. Each time you travel you have options. Let's walk through them.
For this example, our character has a Genesis Mech equipped with a Speed stat of 21, out of 30.
Our character starts at The Bazaar in Dreamlands, one of the more popular locations in The Paradigm. We can travel to any of the locations within The Bazaar without incurring travel time.
Let's travel to The Falls which is also in Dreamlands. Use the "Back to Map" button in the lower left to go "up a level" in the map. We will then see other locations we can travel to.
Click on The Falls. We find there is a cost to travel to this location. Click the Travel button to get more information on travel options.
Fast Travel
This is the equivalent of initiating travel from your Bracer directly.
The time of 15 blocks comes from a roll of 3d8
dice and is the max, unmodified time for this action. To fast travel you will need to spend Fast Codes. You can see your current Fast Code balance for reference to make the decision.
If this option is selected, you will immediately be taken to your destination.
Slow Travel
This is the equivalent of accessing equipped items in your Bracer first and then initiating travel. All the items you have equipped or consumed will reduce your travel time.
Our equipped Mech has a high Speed rating, so our travel time is reduced from 15 to 1 block.
If this option is selected, you will start the countdown of blocks until you arrive at your destination.
You now have three options:
- Wait for the time to pass to complete the travel.
- Abandon the travel and stay at your current location.
- Use Fast Codes to complete your Slow Travel.
Summary
Fast Travel is always the quickest, and most costly, method for traveling to locations outside your current trailhead. Slow travel takes advantage of equipped or consumed gear that may reduce travel time.
